2026 Whooping Crane Trip Reports

We recently concluded a series of four Whooping Crane Photography Tours in the beautiful landscapes of Texas. The first tour was a special "Women In Wildlife Photography" event, followed by three private Whooping Crane Tours. These tours offered participants an incredible opportunity to witness and capture the majesty of these rare birds in their natural habitat.

As expected in South Texas during the winter, the weather was as diverse as the wildlife. From sunny days to overcast skies, from 80 degrees to 20 degrees, each day presented unique challenges and opportunities for capturing stunning photographs. Despite the varying conditions, the spirit of adventure and passion for wildlife photography remained high among the participants.

The Whooping Cranes, known for their distinctive calls and graceful presence, were the stars of the show. These magnificent birds were often seen engaging in their favorite activity—eating. However, the tours were not just about the Whooping Cranes. Participants also had the chance to photograph a diverse array of wildlife, including:

  • Sandhill Cranes

  • Roseate Spoonbills

  • White and Brown Pelicans

  • Egrets

  • Herons

  • Pyrrhuloxia

  • Cardinals

  • Mockingbirds

  • Flamingo

  • And so many more

This variety added extra excitement and challenge to the tours, allowing photographers to expand their portfolios with stunning images of these beautiful species.

Leading these Whooping Crane Photography Tours is a personal favorite of mine. The Whooping Crane is one of the rarest birds in the world and the most endangered crane species. Sharing the experience of observing and photographing these incredible birds with so many enthusiastic photographers is truly special. Each tour is not just about photography but also about raising awareness and appreciation for these magnificent creatures and their conservation.

The recently concluded tours were a memorable journey for all involved. They offered participants a unique combination of wildlife photography, adventure, and learning. It was a joy to share this experience with passionate photographers and to contribute to the appreciation and conservation of the Whooping Cranes and the rich wildlife of Texas.
