Trip Report: Spring Grand Teton National Park Photo Tour
Our annual Spring Grand Teton National Park tour was another resounding success, filled with breathtaking landscapes and magnificent wildlife sightings. As always, the park did not disappoint, offering a rich tapestry of experiences and photo opportunities.
Weather and Scenic Variety
This year, we were treated to a wide range of weather conditions, from bright and sunny days to cold and snowy ones. Such contrasts are a photographer's dream, as they provide a stunning variety of backdrops and moods for our images. The interplay of sunlight and snow created dynamic scenes that were both challenging and rewarding to capture.
Wildlife Encounters
One of the highlights of our tour was the abundance of wildlife we were fortunate to encounter. We were thrilled to see nearly all the animals one might hope for on a trip to Grand Teton, including:
Moose
Elk
Deer
Bison
Yellow-bellied marmots
Ground squirrels
However, the stars of the show were undoubtedly the grizzly bears. We managed to photograph Grizzly 610 and her two adorable new cubs of the year, along with Miracle, the two-year-old cub known for its resilience and charm.
Last year, in Grand Teton National Park, Grizzly 1063, commonly known as Bonita lost two of her triplets to a male grizzly attack. Her third cub as separated from her for a week and then they were briefly reunited. At this point people started calling the cub Miracle, as it managed to survive the male attack. Shortly after that Bonita abandoned the cub. I'm guessing most likely during that week apart she went into heat and was attracting male bears, so she pushed her cub away to save it. Even though Miracle was only one year old when it started living on its own, against all odds the cub has managed to survive the winter. This bear is really living up to its name.
Avian Photography
Bird photography was another significant aspect of our tour, and we captured images of a diverse range of species. Some of the birds we photographed included:
Mountain bluebirds
Yellow warblers
Osprey
Ruffed grouse
Ravens
Each bird brought its own unique beauty and challenge, adding depth to our portfolios and enriching our experience.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this year's Spring Grand Teton National Park photo tour was a resounding success. The combination of diverse weather, abundant wildlife, and stunning scenery made for an unforgettable experience. Although no trip can be called a success without the incredible travelers who attended this years tour. We had a fantastic group, we laughed and cried, but only from laughing so hard!
